Little Larks Day Nursery & Pre-School in Bury St Edmunds provides private day care to babies from 3 months old to children of 5 years old. Our nursery has a homely atmosphere with two large rooms split into age specific areas. Here are some pictures and information about them.
3 months to 24 months
The large homely baby rooms consist of a play area, eating / messy play area and sleep room, as well as access to an 'exclusive' private garden area. We can care for 12 babies from three months to approximately two years old with a staff ratio of 1:3. All babies will have a Key Person to work with parents to ensure we mirror home routines. Using equipment to stimulate and encourage their development, we will provide a range of activities to allow babies to experiment and explore through a variety of play and sensory experiences. A full record of nappy changes, feeds, sleeps and activities will all be recorded in the daily diaries and will be given to all parents/carers at the end of each session.
Toddler & Pre-School Rooms
24 months to 5 years
When children are ready they will move up to the mixed toddler and pre-school room. This is usually around 23 to 24 months and they will have time 'transitioning' and settling in before they move up properly. In this large spacious room, we can accommodate up to 30 children. The children are split into two separate age specific groups. One for children aged 2 to 3 and one for 3 to 5 year old's. They will continue to have a Key Person who will share information with you about their daily activities and observations will be made on our online learning journey (further details below).
As well as being split into age specific groups, the room is split into activity areas – messy play, art, role play, construction, reading, etc. The children also have access to the large well equipped garden and we have regular 'free-flow' sessions where the children can decide where they want to be. The team plan daily activities using age appropriate toys and resources to encourage the children's learning and independence. There are easily accessible toilets with changing facilities and a separate area for children who still need to sleep during the day.
As previously mentioned, Pre-schoolers aged from 3 to 5 years old will remain in this room, which has been designed to be a stimulating learning environment to encourage school readiness. These children will still have a nominated Key Person and their day will be more structured with activities to adhere to the statutory guidelines outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This will include prime areas such as personal, social and emotional development, physical development and communication and language as well as specific areas of literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.
All rooms within the nursery use a new innovative method of recording information for children’s 'Learning Journeys'. Using handheld tablets, the practitioners will be able to take photographs and videos of daily activities which they can transfer online, along with observations and information regarding the child’s development. This will generate an email so that each time a new observation is made parents will be alerted and can view via the portal at home or at work!
We're fortunate to be in a lovely countryside setting with large gardens and a great outdoor learning environment for children to explore.
The beautiful outdoor space will also play a very important part of daily life in the nursery and will be an extension of our indoor rooms. Our rooms allow for free-flow access into the gardens where we have all the equipment needed for maximum play (and learning!). We have gazebos, ride on toys, slides, a large sand pit and our very own 'Lark' Ness Monster to climb on. Children can investigate bugs in our ‘bug hotel’, play with textures and ingredients in our mud kitchen, climb trees or move and transport soil and stones in our construction site! We often go out for walks to explore the footpaths around the nursery and the children love going to Nowton Park to say hello to the giant panda and feed the ducks!
